Learning begins long before children start school and teaching isn’t just for teachers.

No matter how we interact with young children – whether we’re first-time parents, grandparents or involved friends and neighbors – we all play an important role in giving them a great start.

Hey there! I’m Stephen Brackett, here to speak with you about the Colorado Early Learning and Development Guidelines.

As parents, caregivers and members of our community, we want to make sure that every child gets the opportunity to learn and thrive.

All the things that we do to show our children that we love them, also double as teaching moments.

That’s right! Teaching isn’t just for teachers!

That’s why the State of Colorado has developed the Colorado Early Learning and Development Guidelines.

A child’s brain develops at an amazing rate in the early years…

Every hug, every smile, every choice we make teaches our little one something about being in the world.

Without even knowing it, every time you play with your child, you’re building the foundation for his or her success in school and in life.

Note: It is important to arrange for regular health and developmental exams with a health care provider. These are usually part of a well-child visit and can include vision, hearing and oral health screenings.

The Guidelines describe how a typical child develops but it is important to understand that each child learns and develops at his or her own individual pace. Since each child is different, caregivers should talk with a health care provider or other trusted professional about any questions or concerns.
